Welcome to the Scoil Chríost Rí website. I suppose the prime function of
this site is to show off what we have in Scoil Chríost Rí. We are extremely
proud of the school, of the staff and of the pupils, and it is my wish, as
Principal, to trumpet this to the world.
The original school building dates back to 1938. The bright, high-ceilinged
rooms have been extremely well maintained, and have had modern accessories such
as computer networking points added over the years. A major extension opened in
the 1970s, bringing what was then cutting-edge classroom design to our school.
Another extension has been recently sanctioned, which will include a
purpose-built computer lab, and a number of extra classrooms and meeting rooms.
Our building programme alone is indicative of a school which responds with
flexibility and imagination to its changing educational environment.
Our staff is second to none in its range of qualifications and interests.
Of our teaching staff of thirty, many have pursued courses in their own time
and at their own expense in order to enrich the teaching and learning experience
in the school. The interests of the staff range from computers to mountain-climbing,
from literature to music, from GAA to art to soccer to rugby to music, to
orienteering, languages, flying, counselling, and choral singing. The richness
and diversity of the staff, the age and gender mix, and the freedom with which
they help each other and the children is something of which I am extremely
proud, and for which I am extremely grateful.
Our pupils represent an enormously diverse cross-section of modern Irish
society. They come from every socio-economic stream, from many different parts
of the city and outlying areas, and from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds.
We pride ourselves on being able to help children of non-nationals to integrate
into our system, while respecting their ethnicity and not only welcoming, but
embracing, their different perspectives. It has been remarked by visitors that
ours is a school that lives its Mission Statement:
To nurture responsible, capable, caring
individuals; who have a sense of God; who respect difference; and whose school
experience will empower them to encounter life in all its challenging diversity.
